The Kent State University Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center received almost $64,000 in a state grant as a part of the Ohio Arts Economic Relief Grant Program.
David Mitchell, the General Manager at the Performing Arts Center, says the grant will help tremendously after they, along with many other art organizations, were shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a venue that’s main purpose is to bring people together, we were unable to do that for about 18 months. So, with very limited income coming in during that time, it was a challenge operating the business in general. So, we’re thankful that we have received some funds that will with that recovery.”
The funds from the relief grant will go towards employment salaries and benefits, heating, lighting, and all other operating costs.
This money is from an announcement from the Ohio Governor’s Office and the state’s Department of Development, with round two of more than $20 million going to 104 art-based organizations in 33 counties.
