The annual Leaders of Tomorrow Summit, held at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University Tuscarawas, brought in over 300 students.

The Leaders of Tomorrow Summit gathers area high school students to listen to messages in the form of TED Talk style speeches and interactive workshops.

Committee Chair Diane Lautenschleger says the summit allows for students to listen to area community leaders.

“It is so helpful for student because students leave feeling empowered and inspired. It’s helpful sometimes when the students are outside the classroom and they have the opportunity to hear these really true, authentic stories.”

Following four TED Talks, students had the chance to pick from two workshops. The event started to come to a close with the last two speeches.

Conotton Valley School Counselor Kelli Edwards said the final talk, featuring Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, has always had an effect on her students.

“I think Orvis Campbell missed his calling as a standup comedian. He closes every session that we’ve had every year and he’s the perfect example of an approachable leader.”

Many students left the Leaders of Tomorrow Summit with scholarships for a college or technical school of their choice. Scholarships to attend the Kent State Tuscarawas branch were also awarded.
