A local school’s athletic team defended their state title and are record holders for most state softball championships in Ohio.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Division 4 State Championship was held on June 1, from Akron Firestone Stadium, with the Strasburg Lady Tigers defeating Monroeville 10-0 in five innings.

This week, during a point of personal privilege, Senator Al Landis gave recognition to the softball team, noting that Strasburg softball won in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2022, 2023, and in 2024.

“Strasburg won their tenth state softball championship and now hold the state record for the most softball crowns in Ohio State Athletic Association history. The Tigers are led by head coach Tom Spidell and they’ve had many stars during their championship game, they include senior pitcher Amelia Spidell, who struck out nine batters while giving up three hits, and Miley Reifenschneider, who led the team with eight homeruns this season including one in the championship game.”

Sixteen players are returning next season.
