Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Officials’ Independence Day weekend was full of tense and sometimes tragic moments, including the death of a Rush Township man.

He was working under a vehicle at his home on State Route 258. Sheriff Orvis Campbell says it appears 37-year-old Ronald Dague II was fatally crushed when the jack gave out Saturday afternoon. The incident was reported to 911 at 5:25pm.

“Family had been there with him earlier in the day and then had to leave. When they came back located him entrapped. At that point it was determined the individual was deceased.”

Later Saturday the Sheriff’s Office got a call around 10:50pm about a 34-year-old Lawrence Township man in protective military gearing holding a loaded rifle and a child. The man was reportedly intoxicated with a history of mental health illness.

“Apparently he had suffered from some PTSD and some other issue and then also had been using some alcohol and believed that his sister had tried to abduct his daughter, so he was upset. Apparently, the fireworks were part of the issue as well as the alcohol and previous mental health issues.”

Deputies were able to rush and disarm the man. Nobody was injured. He was taken to jail on charges of aggravated menacing, weapons, and will also undergo a mental health evaluation.

Then on Sunday, Sheriff Campbell says authorities were called to the Uhrichsville Water Park shortly before 3:30pm for a child, approximately three years old, found unconscious in the deep end of the pool.

“The caller was not the person with the child. The 911 center received information that they were doing CPR. We dispatched an ambulance and took it to Trinity Hospital and the child was flown by medical helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital.”

There was no immediate update on the child’s condition.

Over the weekend, deputies were also called to search for a man who had gone missing near the Tuscarawas River in Bolivar following an argument with his girlfriend. He later showed up okay at his Louisville home.
