Law enforcement officials are asking motorists to be mindful of motorcycles after multiple crashes over the weekend in Tuscarawas County that killed two motorcyclists.

Sgt. Bill Bower of the State Highway Patrol says this is an important reminder after the New Philadelphia post responded to two fatal motorcycle crashes Friday and Saturday.

“You get the nicer weather coming up so you really have to be cautious because you lose sight of that one headlight. You got to kind of retrain your mind when we’re coming back into spring to make sure you are looking for motorcycles.”

Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Lute is imploring motorcyclists to obey road laws, wear a helmet and other safety gear.

“I’ve been an avid rider for many years, and I’ve made the mistake of not doing it as well, but it really does save lives and keeps you from a lot of medical bills and potentially losing your life and causing distress to your family and loved ones.”

Lute responded to a motorcycle crash in Newcomerstown on Saturday that thankfully was not fatal. The operator had pulled out of the Riesbeck parking lot and lost control of the bike and hit a curb, causing the motorcycle to flip several times and the 45-year-old driver to be thrown.
