Lawrence “Larry” Markworth, of New Philadelphia, passed away on March 21, 2025.

He was born in Cleveland on April 22, 1946, to the late Carl Frederick and Irene M. (Chure) Markworth.

Larry graduated from Fairview Park High School in 1964 and then pursued higher education at The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in business administration and marketing. It was there that he met Phyllis Cohen, whom he married on August 15, 1971. After graduating, Larry continued his studies at Ohio Northern University, earning his Juris Doctor degree.

Larry worked for the United States Treasury Department as a national trust examiner before joining the former Reeves Banking and Trust Co., which was later acquired by Huntington National Bank. He began as the Dover Trust office manager in 1985, eventually retiring as vice president and relationship manager of the Trust Division. In this role, he managed more than 160 accounts for individuals and families, overseeing approximately $200 million in assets. He was also responsible for managing funds for up to 20 private foundations.

A respected attorney, Larry used his skills, vision, and talents to make a lasting impact on the local community, particularly in helping to establish the Tuscarawas County Community Foundation. The foundation’s donations and bequests support projects that enhance the lives of residents in Tuscarawas County.

Larry also enjoyed active leadership and membership roles throughout his life in several organizations, including the Dover-Phila Kiwanis Club, United Way of Tuscarawas County, Starlight Enterprises, Personal and Family Counseling Services, the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County, and the B.P.O.E #510.

Larry is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of New Philadelphia; his son, Aaron (Mirna) Markworth of Flanders, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Soren and Isobel Markworth; and sisters-in-law, Renee and Sharon Markworth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his brothers, Thomas and Kirk Markworth.
