A 5-year levy is on the ballot to support the Village of Strasburg Fire Department.

Chief Justin Ely stresses that this is a renewal to cover fire and EMS service for the village and Franklin Township.

“It is 2.5 mill levy which is $76 per $100,000 of Tuscarawas County Auditor value on the residents’ homes.”

Dollars raised through Issue 10 would go directly for employee salaries.

“Currently we have 30 part-time employees and then myself as the chief. Without have our people on station it’s unknown how long it would actually take to get somebody to the scene of an emergency. We would be relying on other departments to come in and cover.”

Currently three firefighters are on day shift and two for overnight.

The Strasburg Fire Department ran 665 fire and EMS calls in 2024 and Ely says numbers are on track to reach 700 by the end of the year.
