Mary Alice Reporting –

Local filming wrapped up Saturday morning for Studio 523 at New Philadelphia’s Buehler’s.

Producer and Director Richie Johns, a Claymont graduate, says the film, “Called!”, is about a former pastor who is burnt out from ministry and takes a temporary grocery job, meeting various characters.

Prior to filming, the Studio sent out a request looking for local background actors and John’s notes there was an outpouring of support for the locations in Canton and New Philadelphia.

“Over 150, I think, showed up for the big church service and we had a great turnout when filming at the Quaker Cinema, and the community support has been amazing. That’s the whole reason I decided to come back home and shoot the project here. We could not have done it without the support of our wonderful community, [and] I have a wonderful cast and crew. It’s been a hard shoot but very pleased with the footage that we’ve been getting.”

Filming remained on scheduled during the crews’ local stay.

The next step is to send footage to the Studio’s editor before finishing of sound and other effects, and then pitches to distribution companies will occur.
