Nick McWilliams reporting – Despite the poor weather from the past weekend, the local Ohio State Highway Patrol Post reported relatively standard numbers.

The four-day reporting period began Friday morning at 12 a.m., ending late Monday night, much of which came with frigid temperatures and poor road conditions.

New Philadelphia Post Sergeant William Bower says that while they did respond to some incidents, local drivers were mostly cautious when taking to the road this Christmas.

“We investigated 21 crashes, compared to the 10 that we handled last year in 2021. We actually made 78 contacts with the public, and most of that was just assisting the public that were either stranded or in crashes, or somebody that needed assistance out there during the poor weather and road condition time.”

Bower tipped his hat to the Ohio Department of Transportation for their hard work and long hours, helping manage roads as best as they could.

Statewide, seven fatal crashes claimed the lives of 13 residents, with impairment being involved in one of those incidents.
