Loverne Nicholas Marlatt was born on July 5, 1940. He was raised in Newcomerstown. His parents were Gretchen Gean Gross Marlatt and Harold Loverne Marlatt.
Loverne graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1958. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1963. He was a high school teacher for thirty-five years at Newcomerstown Schools and Garaway Schools. He was also a guidance counselor at Garaway Jr. High. He coached football, basketball, and track for many years, continuing after he retired. He loved teaching and coaching. He had many interests and hobbies. To name a few, he loved fly fishing, fly tying, hunting, reading, and gardening. He loved people most of all. If you knew him at all, he loved to visit and harass as many people he could throughout the day. Faith was his highest priority. He loved Jesus and devoted his time serving God and his church, the Christ Methodist Church in Newcomerstown. He served as lay leader and also as a representative at the annual conference for many years and enjoyed being a long time choir member.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Batsel Marlatt, who he has been married to for fifty-eight years; his children Mark Marlatt (Denise Bartlett), Catherine Marlatt, Mary (Mark) Ridgway, Matt (Valerie) Marlatt, Rebecca (Jan) Seevers, and Benjamin (Jamie) Marlatt; his grandchildren Bryce (Malia) Marlatt, Malia (Bryan) Schwinn, Tristen Amundsen, Joshua Carpenter, Blade Mitchell, Gunner Mitchell, Mady Marlatt, Macy Marlatt, Macsen Marlatt, Molly Seevers, Adalynn Seevers Jayna Marlatt, Jennesee Marlatt, Jettie Marlatt, and one due in June; his great-grandchildren Broden Schwinn, Bennett Schwinn, and Amelia Schwinn.
Loverne was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gretchen Gean Marlatt; and his grandparents James and Amanda Miller Marlatt, and Harley and Mabel Fenton Gross.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Methodist Church of Newcomerstown caring and sharing fund.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
