A 24-year-old West Virginia man is accused of an early-morning crime spree that began in Tuscarawas County and ended with his arrest outside Pittsburgh.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Adam Fisher says deputies were called to the R-K Lindsey Funeral Home shortly before 5 a.m. after a van was reported stolen. Police in Pennsylvania found the van in Imperial using Flock cameras around 10:30 Monday morning and took the suspect into custody.
Fisher says the suspect admitted to first breaking into a Tuscarawas County home and stealing a firearm and other items shortly before heading to the funeral home. The stolen gun and van were then allegedly used in an armed robbery at a Harrison County gas station in Scio shortly before 5:30 this morning.
Fisher says the man confessed to all the crimes during questioning in Pennsylvania.
The suspect’s name has not been released. Fisher says investigators are finalizing reports and will seek warrants in Tuscarawas and Harrison counties.
The suspect is expected to face extradition proceedings before being returned to Ohio. Fisher says that could take a few days to a week, although suspects often waive the hearing.
