Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s call records say a 67-year-old magnolia woman living in the Sandy Valley Estates had an unwanted visitor in her mobile home.
This was early Sunday in the form of a 22-year-old man who appeared highly intoxicated. This all happened around 1 a.m.
The report says the woman found the stranger in her kitchen and she shoved him out of her house. The stranger attempted to start her vehicle – that’s when she struck him with a snow shovel. The man then went back into the residence and locked the woman out. When police arrived, they forced their way in and found the stranger sleeping in the woman’s bed. He even allegedly had one of her sweatshirts wrapped around his waist.
The suspect – who apparently thanked police for their service – told them he had been drinking at a new restaurant and didn’t know how he wound up in the woman’s residence. The man earlier had argued he was in his own home. According to court records, it turns out he lived in another mobile home in that park one road over.
The man was taken to union hospital to get checked out and then the county jail. Charges against him include trespassing, attempted grand theft, and disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment in New Philadelphia municipal court Monday. He is next scheduled for a preliminary hearing this coming Monday.
