Marlene Sue “Cookie” Balliett, age 81, of Dover, formerly of Dennison, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Country Club Retirement Campus.
Born February 26, 1941, in Dennison, O., Marlene was the daughter of the late Orvil E. and Margaret J. (Bricker) Dryden
Marlene graduated from Dennison High School. She was employed at New Dawn Nursing Home in Dover as a cook. Marlene was a member of the Christian Lighthouse Church in New Philadelphia. She loved cooking, baking pies, making cakes, and decorating them. In her younger years, she loved to sew, having made uniforms for cheerleading and flag girls. Marlene also loved the ocean. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved being “Grandma Cookie” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and how she loved the Christian Lighthouse Church and often introduced herself to others as “Grandma Cookie”.
Marlene is survived by her children Karen (Chuck) Drennen of Bolivar and Scott (Tina Roden) Norris of New Philadelphia; brother David Dryden of Uhrichsville; grandchildren Chris (Jen) Grove, Andy (Wendy) Grove, Jack (Rachel) Grove, Alyssa (Eric) Ford and Tyler (Marissa) Norris; great-grandchildren Skya (Nick), Jayden, Averi, Isabella, Layla, Landon, Caleb, Owen, Marlee, and Connor; great-great-grandchildren Zoey, Jensen, Bexton and Paxtyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marlene is preceded in death by her siblings Valerie Darlene Dryden and Louise Dryden, and a nephew Mike Allen Gilmore.
Memorial services for Marlene will be held May 7, 2022, at 2 p.m., at the Christian Lighthouse Church, 260 – 21st Street, New Philadelphia, O., 44663. A private family graveside will be held.
