Martin Owen Knight, age 84, a resident of the Sunnyslope Care Center in Bowerston, Ohio, and a former resident of Leesville and Dover, died Saturday morning, March 11, 2023.

He was born May 14, 1938, in Leesville, Ohio and was the son of the late John and Lila Marie (Easterday) Knight.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Helen L. Knight, a brother, John Harvey Knight, twin sisters Ruby Gartrell and Ruth Culler, and sister Priscilla Housel, infant sisters Treva Naomi Knight, Margaret M. Knight, and Edna Mae Knight, and a granddaughter Shelby Knight.

Martin worked part-time for many years at the former Knight’s Service Station in Leesville.  He was employed at the former U.S. Ceramic Tile Company at East Sparta from 1956-1959, and retired in 2001 from Marlite, Inc. in Dover after 42 years of service.  He was a U.S. Army veteran who honorably served his country from 1961-1963.  He was a former member of the Leesville United Methodist Church and the Leesville Volunteer Fire Department.  He dedicated years of service to the Village of Leesville where he functioned as the mayor and spent time on Village Council.  Martin formerly raced cars at Midvale Speedway and enjoyed auto mechanics as a hobby.  He was a 1958 graduate of Conotton Valley High School.

He is survived by two daughters Mrs. Tammy (Juan) Garza of Amory, Mississippi and Mrs. Lila (Billy) Booth of Sherrodsville, OH, three sons, Ronnie D. Riley of North Carolina, Thomas Knight of Middletown, Mississippi, and Benjamin Owen Knight of Martins Ferry, OH, and six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Jerralyn Myers officiating.  Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until time of services at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  Interment of his ashes will occur at a later date in the Leesville Cemetery.
