Mary Alice Baker, 86, of Dover, formerly of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Park Village Health Care in Dover, after a period of declining health. Born April 17, 1936 in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Herman Schupp and Anna Almeda (Geisey) Schupp-Biggs. Mary was a resident of Gnadenhutten for most of her life and had been a member of Cadiz First Church of Christ for many years.

On July 16, 1955, Mary wed John Robert “Bob” Baker with whom she enjoyed nearly 61 years of marriage until his passing on Jully 5, 2016. Mary was a devoted wife and homemaker, as well as a loving mother to their four children, Robert (Vickie) Baker, David (Kim) Baker, Carol (Mark) Murphy, and John (Valerie) Baker. They were also blessed with 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Mary’s surviving family is completed by her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty J. Urban; brother, Mervin Biggs; and stepfather, Oscar M. Biggs.

A private, family graveside service will be held in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
