Mary Amelia Manella 98, of New Philadelphia, passed away on January 16, 2023. 

Mary was born in Mineral City, Ohio on Jan. 27, 1924.  She was the salutatorian of her graduating class from Mineral City High School and was a lifelong and devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Post 519.  

She was also a very prayerful and spiritual woman and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Church of the Holy Trinity.  Mary was a “Rosie the Riveter” during the war years working at the Timken Roller Bearing Company during the war years.  Soon after the war she met the love of her life, Augustine Manella, was married and had children.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother who with her husband of 69 years raised six children.   

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Nasti, daughter Barbara Yost, son-in-law Carl Yost, and granddaughter Christina Yost, son David Manella, granddaughter Andrea Manella, and sister Josephine Solvey, and great-grandson Steven Chiples.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Randy (Debbie) Manella, Kathy (Lanny) Griffin, Mike (Adrienne) Manella, and Theresa (Jim) Ady; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity at 1835 Dover-Zoar Rd. NE Bolivar with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield as Celebrant. He will be assisted by Deacon Lyn Houze. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Mineral City. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choosing or the Church of the Holy Trinity in Zoar, Ohio.  The Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar is handling the arrangements.
