Mary Ann Becker 81, of Dover, died peacefully surrounded by her family Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Truman House of Community Hospice in New Philadelphia. Born March 23, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Norman J. and Mildred (Schiel) Hirt who passed when Mary Ann was 5 years old. She is also preceded in death by her stepmother Melinda (Voelzke) Hirt.
Mary Ann was a 1959 graduate of the former St. Joseph High School in Dover. Her greatest joy was being around her four grandsons and great grandchildren, whether it was watching and cheering them on in their many different sporting events, or just rocking and reading to them. She was so very proud of each of them. It was a love like no other. She was a member of St. John’s U.C.C in Dover, past member of the Dover Mother’s Club, a member of the Singing Wheels Motorcycle Club and the Massillon Car Club. She loved to bake and made many Tornado cookies for Dover football teams when her grandsons played, and no one could make a better apple or cherry pie. Mary Ann never met a stranger. Her parents operated the former Dover Hotel for many years which is why they relocated to Dover from Sandusky. During her senior year of high school, she met the love of her life and so their story began…
On August 27, 1960, she married the love of her life, Daniel A. Becker, and would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this August. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter Susan (John) Solvey of Dover and a son Robert (Debbie Petry) Becker of Dover; grandchildren Rob (Nancy) Becker of Berea, Bryan (Danielle) Alesiano of Winter Garden, Florida, Christopher (Katie) Becker of North Canton and A.J. Solvey of Dover; great grandchildren Lilly and Clay Becker, Madison and Macklen Becker, Breanna and Daxton Alesiano; a brother Norm (Kay) Hirt of Milan, Ohio and a brother in law Mike (Nancy) Becker of Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by in laws Donald and Florence Becker and a brother-in-law Donald Becker, Jr.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Dover Burial Park in Dover with Pastor Dotty Hartzel officiating. Following services, a lunch and time for fellowship will be held at the Wilkshire Event Center in Bolivar. The Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar is handling the arrangements. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Truman House. They are definitely Angels on earth. Thank you, Dad, for taking such great care of Mom. You have truly shown your family what true love is all about. The family suggests memorials be made to Community Hospice, The Alzheimer’s Association or The American Cancer Society.
