Mary “Darlene” Herndon, 88 of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Darlene was born October 4, 1937, in Newcomerstown to the late Francis William and Martha P. (Hicks) Ross. She graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1955 where she was known as being always busy. She loved sewing, gardening, and her flowers. She was a friend to everyone she met. Darlene loved her animals and her rescues. She worked for many years at RCA Cambridge and retired from Newark Air Force Base, where she met her husband. They had no children, but she loved the neighborhood kids and her nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of forty-five years Harold D. Herndon; and her siblings Diana Fairchild and Francis William Ross, Jr.
She is survived by her special friend Faye Bryant, and other neighbors who watched over her for many years until her health declined and she went to Riverside Manor for two years. She had great care from the nurses and aides, and her special friend and roommate Donna always made her laugh.
Darlene will be laid to rest by her husband at West Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
