Mary E. Ervin, 96, formerly of Newcomerstown and Strasburg, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Park Village Southside of New Philadelphia after a period of declining health. Mary was the youngest of four daughters born to the late John H. Lower and the late Margaret A. (Hart) Lower Jones. She was born on February 23, 1930, at Chili in Coshocton County.
On June 25, 1949, Mary married the love of her life E. Virgil Ervin who passed away on June 14, 1991, just eleven days short of their 42nd wedding anniversary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters and their spouses; Phyllis (John) Irwin, Virginia Lower, and Helen (George) Mohr; and a niece Georgianna Roudabush.
Mary was a proud graduate of the Newcomerstown High School Class of 1948 and was always involved in the planning of their five-year class reunions and monthly class luncheons. She thoroughly enjoyed her twenty-four winters in Lakeland, Florida, along with her sisters. In her younger years she had been active in the Newcomerstown Jaycee Wives and had helped to manage J& V Coin Machine Co. for several years after the death of Virg. Mary was pretty good at fixing hair, had an eye for home decorating, enjoyed sewing projects, loved to shop, and had a gift for caring for anyone who was under the weather; however, time spent with her family was always her greatest joy.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy (AI) Osler of Strasburg and her son Dennis (Diane) Ervin of Shelby; five grandsons Chad (Tammie) Osler of Pickerington, Michael (Kim) Osler of Bettendorf, lowa, Thomas (Jen) Ervin of Chicago, Brian (Karen) Ervin of Lebanon, Ohio, and Scott (Emma) Ervin of Plain City; nine great-grandchildren Drew, Anna, Evan, Ryan, Owen, Allie and Ben Osler, Laurel and Izzy Ervin; and a niece Lynn (Ray) Pike of Ruskin, Florida.
