Mary Jane (Young) Davis, of Strasburg, entered the world on Saturday, February 12, 1944, daughter of William and Sara Maxine Young of Canton.
At the tender age of 11 years, she had a crush on a boy named James (Jim) Davis, and he for her. As the school years went by, the crush became true love. Jim and Jane were married October 26, 1963, and their union brought two children into the world.
Jane was a fastidious homemaker, giving Martha Stewart a true challenger. She had a giving spirit, loved flowers, helped others and loved her family fiercely.
Jane was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – NALC- in Bolivar. She served the Tusky Valley School District as high school secretary in the 1980’s, and in the 1970’s as secretary to Peace Lutheran Church in North Industry.
Jane was a past member of the Canton South Garden Club, Zoar Historical Society, church altar guild and bereavement guild. She served the Emmaus community for decades leading others in their walk of faith. She and Jim loved to travel including may wonderful cruises. They enjoyed nearly two decades of being snowbirds at their winter home in Florida.
Left to mourn her passing is her beloved husband, James (Jim), daughter Amy (Kevin) Mears, son Michael (Jennifer) Davis, grandchildren Michael Mears, Justin (Tanya) Davis, Alexandria (Zachary) French. Recently Jim and Jane were blessed with two great-grandchildren: Austin Davis and Evelyn French.
The last few months of Jane’s life were challenging as her deteriorating health took hold. She never stopped knowing “her” Jim and became a favorite of the staff at Hennis Homestead wing by dancing with her favorite aide, Melanie, or just giving people a smile.
On May 11, 2023, Jane was set free from her earthly being and gracefully entered her eternal salvation. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
She will be remembered and celebrated with a service on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar with Pastor Mike Pozzutto officiating. Friends may be received from 10 am to noon preceding her service. Family burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery. A light meal will be held in the Fellowship Hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church following the committal service.
Special thanks for the Hennis Care Centre, Memory Unit Team, who went above and beyond to provide her with amazing care, compassion, love and dignity during her stay. Also, much thanks to Bob Smith and his ambulance staff for their prompt assistance as it became needed.
