Mary Sheeley, 89, of Uhrichsville, passed away June 10, 2023, after a period of declining health. She was surrounded by family.
Born in Mineral City on January 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ruth (Hewitt) Wise. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry J. Sheeley on January 15, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Geraldine Jenkins and Doris Byer, brother Andrew Wise Jr., and recently beloved sister-in-law Margaret Incarnato.
She was a graduate of Dover High School. She worked at East Sparta Tile and was an elderly caregiver at times in her life. She did a lot of volunteer work as a member of the Grange. She collected money from neighbors when someone in the neighborhood passed away, where she would give the family a meat and cheese tray and any leftover money. If she did not get enough money, she would make up the difference with her own money.
She was a life-long member of the First Church of the Brethren in New Philadelphia. Over the years she was a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Christian Board of Education, and Deacon.
She loved to craft, quilt, sew, cook, garden and can fruits and vegetables. She was well known for her noodles, meatloaf, buns and cut-out cookies. She entered many of her vegetables, fruits and canned goods in the Tuscarawas County Fair, and she won many ribbons over the years.
She is survived by her son, Jerry J. Sheeley II, daughter Linda (Dennis) Barton, grandchildren Conner (Kayla) Barton, Kayla (Drew Corliss) Barton, and great grandson Brady Barton (her smiley boy). She was all about family, and she was especially thankful for the concern and visits of family and friends.
To prevent their mom from having to go to a nursing home, her children took 24/7 care of her for the last 2 years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Truman House New Philadelphia.
