The State Highway Patrol says a crash from last month involving a collision between two oncoming vehicles trying to turn on I-77 at Newcomerstown has now turned fatal.
The New Philadelphia Post learned Sunday that 83-year-old Judy Mizer, of West Lafayette, died from injuries sustained as a passenger in the May 13th crash.
Lt. Johnnie Maier says Mizer was in an eastbound car driven by her husband, 85-year-old Ralph Mizer, which was turning right onto I-77 south when it was struck by a westbound car also turning onto 77 south. That vehicle was being driven by 26-year-old Jonathon Engle, of Cambridge.
Engle, at the time, was cited and found guilty for failure to yield, driving with a suspended license, and a seatbelt violation. Additional charges could be pending, according to Maier.
“At this point, we’re going to submit are investigation to the county prosecutor’s office. Could potentially be charged with some aggravated vehicular homicide charges.”
Following the crash, Ralph Mizer had also been transported to Akron General and there have been no updates since on his condition.
