Once again Uhrichsville’s mayor is asking for a committee to have a meeting and look at legislation aimed at inoperable vehicles.

Jim Zucal has requested for several months for legislation regarding penalties for automobiles sitting around town.

“I can tell you that I took a slight drive around town and I wouldn’t be amiss in telling you as many as many as eight, nine hundred, a thousand cars. I was down in one quadrant of the city and came up with 200 cars sitting in the community that are inoperable. Everything from a couple of Midvale raceway cars to cars with no license plates, and cars with even not any rubber tires.”

Law Director Jeff Merklin said the code enforcement officer is doing a great job in issuing notices under the International Property Maintenance Code. Zucal did not argue that point, but noted the IPMC defines what an inoperable vehicle is and what he wants is the ability to remove vehicles.

“I feel we should have the right to remove those vehicles. Other cities do it so I don’t see why we can’t do it. I think there should be legislation in place to remove unlicensed inoperable vehicles after due process, to impound them, and to clean up the city.”

The request was once again placed into committee for further review.
