A Tuesday event invites members of the public to learn about democrat candidates on the May primary ballot.

Tuscarawas County Young Dems President Genaro DeMonte says they are excited to offer this meeting at Kent State Tuscarawas Founder’s Hall.

“We called it a town hall but it’s a little different that a normal town hall. We came up with the questions ahead of time and sent them to all the candidates ahead of time so we can keep the evening moving.”

DeMonte says these types of events are important to help with community engagement and keep voters informed.

“I believe everybody wants to know who they’re voting for since we, as American’s, don’t get the chance to vote on every law that’s passed so you want to know the ins and outs of the people representing you.”

Democrat candidates for the Ohio house and senate, Tuscarawas County auditor, common pleas judge, and commissioner will be there, along with at least four running in the 6th congressional race. Sherrod Brown will not be in attendance but someone from his campaign will answer questions.

DeMonte adds that Young Dems is it’s own organization and not part of the Tuscarawas County Democratic Party.

“We are only people of the age 16 to 40. We mainly focus on issues and candidate ideas of people who are in that age bracket. Those issues resonate with everybody. We work in partnership with the county democratic party but we are our own entity.”

The March 31st event is open to the public and will begin at 7pm.
