Nick McWilliams reporting – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were busy during the Memorial Day weekend.

In total, 17 fatalities were reported from Friday, May 27th to Monday, May 30th.

That number represented an increase from last year, where 15 traffic deaths occurred over that reporting period.

In total, over 26,000 traffic enforcement contacts were made, including 490 OVI arrests, nearly 300 drug arrests and just under 4,000 seat belt citations issued.

The patrol also reported 2,706 motorist assists.
