Michael Dale Royer, 56, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born November 1, 1967 in Dennison, he was the son of Dale Edward and Judy Carol (Applegarth) Royer of Dennison.

In addition to his parents, Mike’s surviving family includes his son, Shawn Royer; sisters, Millie Royer and Vickie (Mel) Newsom; several uncles, including Pete Applegarth; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion and best friend, Ginny Elchert; her mom, Doris; her children, Philip (Anairis) Chavez, Brittany (Josh) Hilvers, and Sabrina (Cheryl Ricca) Heck; and her grandchildren, Mason, Elisio, Apollo, Celia, Darius, and Dawson. In the past couple years, Mike was able to spend many happy days traveling with Ginny and her family – a time that he treasured. He also leaves behind his dear friends, Steve (Randi) Anderson who was like a son, Matt (Amy) Eggerton, and Shag.

Mike was a lifelong area resident and a 1986 graduate of Claymont High School and Buckeye J.V.S. where he studied auto tech. He was employed for many years at Colfor Manufacturing in Minerva, before setting out on his own as a self-employed mechanic. He also absolutely loved scrapping which became much more than a hobby to him. Beginning in the early 2000’s Mike was a driver in countless races at Midvale Speedway. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A celebration of Mike’s life, officiated by Pastor Matt Eggerton, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6, at Dennison Foursquare Church. His family will receive callers from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service. A reception will follow. Those wishing to honor Mike’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663. His family are deeply grateful for the excellent care provided by everyone at the Truman House, as well as to Steve Anderson and Ginny Elchert, for truly going above and beyond to help Mike and his family throughout his final illness.
