Michael L. Frutig, 72, of Dover passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022, in his home following a period of declining health
Born in Dover on February 26, 1950, he was the son of the late Alfred F. “Freddie” “Fritz” and Doris (Arnold) Frutig. On September 16, 1967, Mike married the love of his life, the former Judith Smith recently celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. After graduating from Garaway High School, Mike served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He went on to be a mechanic and machine operator for Stone Container. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed going to the gun range, his Cleveland “Indians”, family vacations, and especially a good hamburger. Mike was always proud of being a true Dundee Bulldog!
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his two children Chad (Dr. Julie Goswami) Frutig of New Jersey and Melissa (Dr. Shawn) Kapper of Dover; three grandchildren Carolina Kapper, Graydon Kapper, and William Frutig. He is also survived by his sister LuAnn Zahner of Dundee, sisters-in-law Karen Frutig of Sugarcreek, Kathy (Mark) Miller of Sugarcreek, and Lois Smith of Walnut Creek. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Troy Michael, brother Gary Frutig, and brothers-in-law Ronald Zahner and John Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with Pastor Dotty Hartzell officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Dundee Cemetery with the Sugarcreek American Legion Post #494 conducting military honrs. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 5-8 p.m.
