Michael (Mike) Paul McMasters Sr., 75, of Gilmore, died Friday evening of December 23, 2022, at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation of Newcomerstown, following an extended illness.
Mike was born at Twin City Hospital in Dennison on September 2, 1947, to the late John and Anna (Workman) McMasters. He attended Gnadenhutten High School. Just before graduating, Mike went to work for Midvale Brickyard where he was employed for twenty years. He then worked for John Fivecoat for a few years prior to starting at Barber Publishing in Uhrichsville until retirement in 2012. Mike loved to hunt and fish in his spare time and enjoyed completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are Mike’s wife of fifty-six years, BonnaJean (Milligan), to whom he married on January 22, 1966, his three children: Michele (Jim) Hobart of New Philadelphia, Michael (Faylene) McMasters Jr. of Port Washington, and Jennifer McMasters of Gilmore; his three grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley) McMasters, Tyler (Alexis) Hobart, and Katlin (Nickolas) Tucker; two step-grandchildren: Klarissa Hatfield (Joshua Boyce Jr.) and Jamison Foster; four great-grandchildren: Jacob McMasters Jr., Braxxton McMasters, Jarrod McMasters, and Kayden Schweitzer, one step-great-grandchild Raelynn Boyce, two sisters: Dolly Tracy and Lydia Westhaver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Mike is preceded in death by seven siblings: Homer, Elmer, Charles, and James McMasters, Betty Wright, Katherine McAfee, and Dessie Brown.
A funeral service will be held for Mike at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten with Pastor Larry Hostetler officiating. Burial will follow the service at West Union Cemetery in Gilmore. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
