Michael Scott Caughey, 63, of Waynesburg, Ohio, formerly a longtime Tuscarawas County resident, passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 26, 2023, after a brief illness. Born April 16, 1960 in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of JoAnna (McIlvain) Lindsesmith and William James Caughey who survive him.

Mike was a 1978 graduate of Strasburg High School who was employed for many years at Case Farms where he had worked as a dispatcher and scheduler. Mike loved everything about cars — especially GM cars. He spent countless happy hours fixing and restoring cars over the years, and everyone knew that if they had a question about cars, he was the one to go to for the best answers. He also enjoyed the Sunday races and NASCAR.  Over the years, Mike restored many homes, always improving and updating any property that he purchased. Most of all, Mike loved his family and devoted his life to his children and grandchildren, always wanting to do anything that he could for their happiness.

He will be deeply missed by his surviving family which includes his children, Jordan Hendricks, Olivia (Kurtis) Colaner, Scott Caughey, and Elizabeth Caughey; grandchildren, Koa, Jace, Emma, Charlotte, Liam, Rosemary, Norah, and Octavian with another expected; parents, JoAnna Lindesmith and Bill (Judy) Caughey; brother, James Caughey; half-sister, Colleen; several nieces and nephews; his former spouse, Wendy (Kenny) Hall; and numerous dear friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Daniel Lindesmith, and by his beloved Grandma Caughey with whom he cherished many fond memories of attending church together.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Petty Family Foundation and the NASCAR Foundation.
