Mary Alice Reporting –
Atwood Lake Park celebrated its newly renovated activity center on Saturday.
The space hosts an open area that can accommodate up to 158 people and a larger general store, with construction completed in roughly nine months.
Craig Butler, Executive Director of Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, was pleased to see so many people come to the ribbon cutting.
“It’s fantastic. I was hopeful people would come. This is a central gather point, a focal point of the park that desperately needed repair and renovated.”
Peter Novotny, Chief of Recreation at Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, says the $1.6 million construction was needed for the building, which is a main community hub.
“And then we added a new trail system that takes this community center and connects it to our beach, amphitheater, just over about a mile of trails that are connected to this system so we had a large paving project. It’s pretty awesome.”
The 4,100 feet of existing trails that connect to the activity center were paved at a cost of $114,000.
Stanley Miller Construction completed the project that included upgrades to the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, and WiFi.
