Minnard Bailey and Wanda Mae Gray are together again after he was called to his heavenly home at the age of 89 on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from Dennison, Ohio. Born May 31, 1934 in Lloydsville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Walter Eugene and Bessie (Setvin) Gray.
A 1952 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Minnard was a Twin City resident for most of his life. He was employed by Home Engineering in Dover for 30 years before becoming a self-employed contractor. He was also a parttime letter carrier for 13 years. Many people will remember Minnard for his 30 years of officiating baseball, basketball, football, and softball for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He attended a number of local churches over the years, including Uhrichsville Christian Temple, and most recently 11th Street Church of God in Uhrichsville, as well as attending the 7th Day Adventist Church of New Philadelphia with his sister. He enjoyed playing keyboard for area nursing homes and churches, and he loved fishing and waterskiing.
On June 21, 1966, Minnard wed Wanda Mae (Dickey) Gray with whom he enjoyed over 27 years of marriage until her passing on December 27, 1993. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter W. Gray, Alwood “Butch” Gray, and Robert L. Gray; sister, Gloria M Wigert; and dear friend, Nellie Haney. He is survived by his son, Douglas Gray; daughter, Candace Felix; grandchildren, Lacee, Ruby, Michelle, Travis, Nicole, and Danielle; sister, Veda “Maxine” Bower; numerous nieces and nephews, including Jean and Sam Weaver who have been a great help to him; and the family of Nellie Haney with whom he had grown very close.
