Molly E. Lanning, 83, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness. Born December 17, 1940, in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Earl “Sap” and Isabell “Sis” (Roth) Goshorn.

Molly grew up in Tuscarawas and was a 1958 graduate of Tuscarawas High School. She worked as a bartender for the Uhrichsville Elks for many years before moving in 1988 to Kinston, North Carolina where she was employed as a seamstress by Hampton Industries and Pearsons Surf shop. She returned to Tuscarawas County in 2016 and has attended Sharon Moravian Church.

On October 2, 1988, Molly married Wayne Leroy Lanning with whom she enjoyed 23 years of marriage until his passing on August 5, 2011. She leaves behind her children, Ray (fiancée, Tammy) Van Lehn, Karen (Jeff) Smith, Tara (Bob) Bright, Gary Thompson, and Tanya (fiancé, Chris) Thompson; grandchildren, Stephanie, Marvin, Ashley, Timothy, Brooklyen, Dakodah, and Breana; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill (Mel) Goshorn and Karen (Jeff) Lester; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn McCreary, and former spouse, Ralph “Gary” Thompson.

In keeping with Molly’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. She will be interred beside her late husband, Wayne, in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery on a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
