City officials are anticipating some more commercial development along South Wooster Avenue after the sale of a portion of the former General Electric property.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the development group MTTJ Properties has purchased just over three acres of land fronting South Wooster Avenue across from the Speedway.

He says the group is planning to add commercial buildings, which could include retail, offices or restaurants. GE still owns the rest of the 17-acre property

The GE Lighting factory closed in 2017. It had employed nearly 200 people in its heyday but had dwindled down to a skeleton crew in its final few years. The factory was torn down a few years ago.
