Some new attractions could soon arrive along the Midway at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia.

The city has been working on upgrading the park in efforts to boost recreational opportunities for visitors and residents, and the latest move will be addition by subtraction.

Mayor Joel Day said a contractor is already on site and has started demolition work of the long dormant batting cages.

“There have been no takers in the city’s attempt to sell the batting machinery, so it will be taken as scrap by the contractor doing the demolition job. Which should be completed in the next two months.”

The timeline for the removal of the concrete walls and other parts of the mechanics of the pitching machines could wrap up sooner than the two month projection, with Councilman Mitchell Pace reporting work is progressing well.

Additionally, the city will soon begin using temporary signage and other indicators for a mockup of where the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail could be located.

Service Director Ron McAbier says that the path would not be final, and instead will serve as a test run.
