The number of confirmed measles cases involving Tuscarawas County residents is now up to eight, according to the Tuscarawas County Health Department. The latest count was released as of 3:30 yesterday afternoon.
Health officials previously said the cases were linked to initial exposures at Smokey Lane Stables on July 17th or the Bloomfield Livestock Auction in Bloomfield, Ohio, on July 18th.
The cases involve people ranging in age from one to 20 years old, and none were vaccinated.
The Health Department says the MMR vaccine remains the best protection against measles. Department community relations director Jennifer Demuth is encouraging residents to make sure their vaccinations are up to date.
Tuscarawas County Health Commissioner Katie Seward said the measles case announced last week was the first reported in Tuscarawas County since 2010.
