Nick McWilliams reporting – Further upgrades to the north end of Dover could soon be on the way with a proposal of a new housing development.

That announcement, made by Mayor Shane Gunnoe and Lawver Homes based in Dover, promises the first new housing subdivision in years.

The mayor said that the need for more housing is hitting Tuscarawas County hard, especially Dover, and new homes on the north end of town would be a welcome addition.

“The housing development is tentatively called Crimson Cove and will consist of 30 lots, primarily for single-family homes on 14 acres located off Ohio Avenue and County Road 80. This is past the Aspen Woods addition and at the edge of the city corporation limit.”

Gunnoe says that first, the city will need to provide substantial water, sewer, and pavement upgrades in the area to assist with the development.

Bill Gibson, a representative from Lawver Homes, said that it will take years to get the area fully ready for the first shovels to go in the ground, and that they are projecting some lots to be as large as a half acre.

He adds that homes could vary between 1,400 to possibly 1,900-square feet, and range from $350,000 to $450,000, much of which will be determined by potential buyers.

Depending on the drafting and preparation process, Gibson says that the goal is to begin breaking ground by the spring of 2024.
