Nick McWilliams reporting – The reimagining of the downtown Dennison area is making more progress, according to the latest report.

During the latest village council meeting, Mayor Greg DiDonato made mention that the city recently surpassed the $300,000 mark in funds raised for the revitalization.

He added that a total of 36 brick inlays which will be set in the sidewalk have been purchased and sponsored through fundraising efforts, and a partnership will add more benches on the sidewalk.

“We were fortunate and are getting more funding with the [Dennison Railroad] Depot to get 10 more benches, which will put us at 24 based on availability, throughout Grant and Center [Streets.] We will have another six that we can sell with a sponsorship for $750. Other than that, they’re all sold.”

In other downtown news, the mayor adds that for the skating rink project, nearly $90,000 has also been raised, putting the village at just over 80 percent of their goal.

Council members also approved the expenditure of just under $17,000 for work on the pump on one of the fire department’s newer fire trucks.
