Nick McWilliams reporting – State level grant dollars are coming in for a fifth round of funding, including Stark, Wayne, and Tuscarawas County districts.

In the latest funding distribution, over $42 million has been earmarked for 624 schools in the state in the K-12 School Safety Grant Program, which has awarded over $215 million to date.

For Stark, the Canton City School District received $650,000 for 13 buildings, all slated for $50,000 for safety improvements. The Northwest Local School District is also in line for $130,000 for their middle and primary schools, as well as W.S. Stinson Elementary.

The East Canton Middle School will receive $100,000.

In Wayne County, the total awarded amount was $1.149 million, with the highest total going to Rittman Exempted Village Schools for $400,000. Wooster City Schools will garner $312,000, and Norwayne has been granted $208,000.

In Tuscarawas, Strasburg-Franklin Local is using $100,000 for both the elementary and high school for safety upgrades. Indian Valley Local Schools has $28,000 at its disposal, split evenly across the high school and middle school.

East Central Ohio Educational Service Center was listed for $100,000.

All schools that applied for grants in all of Ohio’s 88 counties have received at least one award, per a release from Governor Mike DeWine’s office.
