Nick McWilliams reporting – Senator Jay Hottinger announced on Tuesday more than a million dollars worth of investment in Tuscarawas and Holmes Counties.

The funds are a part of the 31st Senate District and are written into the yearly Capital Budget.

The Tuscarawas Convention and Visitors Bureau will receive $330,000 to help with refurbishing work for the Fort Laurens site, which is the only Revolutionary War fort in Ohio.

Key funding will also be distributed to the Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County, with $300,000 to be used for constructing a new facility for housing, food, counseling, and more.

The third-largest distribution will be given to the village of Tuscarawas for updates on the community’s Memorial Park.

A total of $95,000 will be used for the Zoar Community Auditorium accessibility project, $50,000 for Zoar for the Bolivar Mansard building project, and another $50,000 to Trumpet in the Land for a tower project.

In Holmes County, a quarter of a million dollars is to be set aside for the Holmes Center for the Arts, LLC for a new theater.

The other $35,000 is earmarked for the Holmes County Historical Society Victorian House Museum.

The Ohio House of Representatives and Senate are expected to vote on the budget Wednesday, which will then pass it on to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk.
