A two-vehicle crash occurring Tuesday afternoon was fatal for one individual involved.

The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that at approximately 4:20pm, a 1994 Honda Goldwing and a 2002 Pontiac Grand AM where both westbound on US 36.

Sgt. Jennifer Makris notes that the Honda motorcycle was struck in the rear.

“Motorcycle slowed down and was attempting to make a left turn when it was struck by a Pontiac. Motorcycle went off the right side of the road, struck a tree, and it came to rest down an embankment. The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time and the driver of the Grand AM was wearing his seatbelt.”

 The motorcycle rider, 63-year-old Charles Dayton Cox, of Gnadenhutten, was transported to Trinity Hospital Twin City, by Arrowhead Joint Fire, where he was pronounced deceased.

The 21-year-old car driver, of West Lafayette, was treated and released on scene by Uhrichsville Fire and Rescue.

Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the ongoing investigation.
