A man charged in connection with multiple thefts at area businesses will have his case bound over to the Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.

The decision was made at a Friday preliminary hearing, New Philadelphia Municipal Court, when the judge granted a motion to waive the hearing.

39-year-old Tyler Baker is accused of stealing items, after breaking into, several Dollar General locations, the Atwood Dari Bar, and the Tuscarawas Valley Elementary School building.

At the hearing, a waiver was signed which bound the matter to Common Pleas and then it was asked for the $10,000 bond to be lowered to personal recognizance so that he can ensure employment, and Baker chose to speak on his behalf.

“I just want the chance to not lose my vehicle that’s in impound, and be able to make [housing and child support] payments and help out a little bit. Obviously, if I’m stuck in jail until this all goes through the proceedings, then it’s also going to affect my family dramatically, and just got a truck, just got a job, just trying not to lose everything I’ve worked for.”

The motion was denied based upon multiple factors including warrants being issued in many previous cases and that he was just released in October.

Baker was arrested following reports on April 19th regarding an alarm at the Roswell store at then at the school. According to reports, a Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Deputy recognized the pickup truck seen at both locations. A search in Zoarville located the vehicle with multiple stolen merchandise in the bed.
