Mary Alice Reporting – Ten organizations are getting help after a total of $1.1 million in grants were awarded.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) Board of Directors recently approved the grants for entities within their 19-county region.

The money is to assist with water quality projects, flood reduction and mitigation programs; as well as, watershed education efforts, says Communications and Marketing Director Adria Bergeron.

“Two of the projects that are located in Tuscarawas County are the Zoar Goose Run Conservation and that one was approved at $47,000 and the Dreher Property Acquisition at $93,650. So, in total, a little over $140,000 to two different organizations.”

Another project’s application, for the Village of Bolivar Steambank Stabilization, is still under consideration.

These grants are awarded annually and are highly competitive and undergo a multi-step review process. Applications for the next grant cycle are due to MWCD by the close of business on September 1, 2023. Further information can be found at www.mwcd.org.
