Gwen Rummell Reporting –

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) has unveiled a plan to upgrade recreational facilities and marinas, which were in need of maintenance.

The initiative was made possible by the revenues generated from Utica shale leases.

Funded projects have included upgraded cabins, campgrounds, docks, playgrounds, picnic shelters, shower houses, trails, and wastewater utilities infrastructure.

According to a comprehensive analysis conducted by Cleveland State University, the growth in oil and gas revenues from Utica Shale development has been a significant boon for MWCD, bringing an array of economic benefits to the district’s 18-county service area.

These include job creation, increased state and local tax revenue, and growth in related industries such as transportation and infrastructure.
