Gwen Rummell Reporting –
The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) received awards recognizing achievements in its core missions of flood prevention and reduction, recreation, and conservation.
The MWCD’s work in preventing and reducing flooding was recognized by the Ohio Dam Safety Organization. The MWCD was presented with the annual award for the Best Maintained Dam for its work on the eight dams in the Chippewa District.
The second award from the Buckeye Trail Association, titled the Merrill Gilfillan Award for Visionary Agency Partners, was for the maintenance on the Buckeye Trail. The Buckeye Trail is a 1,400 mile network of trails, a portion of which goes through MWCD lands.
In recognition of MWCD’s efforts to protect wild spaces, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) awarded MWCD the Chaddock Philanthropist of the Year Award. The award celebrates individuals and organizations that have made a difference in Appalachia through philanthropy.
