The New Philadelphia Municipal Court building now has a Naloxbox for those interested in picking up the opioid overdose reversal medication or information.
City Health Commissioner Nicole Bache says the box is available right outside the probation department during normal business hours.
“You can go in the building there and just walk up to the box and take what you need, no questions asked. There’s other resource we’ve placed in there as well. Our office is going to be the managing agency for that box keeping it stocked and making sure that there’s always kits available. We’re really excited to have that box there.”
Bache says it can be beneficial to have the Narcan kits available in case of an emergency.
“I have people come up a lot of times and say I don’t need that I don’t do drugs. Maybe you have small children at home? Maybe you had surgery and now you have narcotics in the home. What if that child gets into those narcotics or if you drop a pill on the floor and they pick it up, would you not want the medication to be able to help that child?”
Bache says there’s other locations to pick up an overdose reversal kit, including the Tuscarawas Health Department.
“Can always got to our [New Philadelphia] health department and walk up to the window and just say you want a Project Dawn kit or a Narcan kit. Our staff has been trained to be very non-judgmental and easy to work with, and they will have you a kit and trained on how to use very quickly and out the door.”
Naloxbox is sponsored in partnership with the Tuscarawas County Health Department and Project DAWN.
