Nancy Lee Barnes, 81, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House, after a lengthy illness. Born November 25, 1941 in Jewett, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Clyde G. and Mary E. (Paine) Bolitho.

After her graduation from Carrollton High School, Nancy married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, George Arthur Barnes, on August 7, 1959. George and Nancy were blessed with three children, George (Cathy) Barnes, II and Melody (Chris) Page who survive her, and James Andrew “Jimmy” Barnes who preceded her in death. Nancy is also survived by grandchildren, Shayla (Danny) Quarles, Chanda (Thane) Rizor, Brittany (Cole) Householder, Jessica Barnes, and Danielle (Joseph) Holt; great-grandchildren, Zayden, Greyson, Remington, Wyatt, Kash, Waylon, Walker, Kodi, Kal, and Callan, with another expected; two sisters, Brenda (Bob) Fowler and Karen (Sam) Newell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved by many friends who will also miss her deeply. In addition to her parents and son, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Mildred Skipper, Jean Mellinger, Eddie Bolitho, and Dorothy Forro.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who also operated her own cleaning service, taking care of many local homes and businesses over the years. In her free time, she loved playing games and cards, including several card clubs, and she was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. Nancy was a member of New Philadelphia First Baptist Church for many years.

According to Nancy’s wishes, cremation is planned with a private, family service to be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Nancy’s memory by a charitable donation are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice and New Philadelphia First Baptist Church.
