The Ohio State Highway Patrol is encouraging teen drivers to be safe out on the roadway.

Data show that, in Tuscarawas County, there were almost 760 youth-related crash in 2022, and so far this year, there have been 512.

New Philadelphia Post Trooper Spencer Day says the leading causes of crashes involving young drivers includes following too close, failure to yield, or running a red light or stop sign.

“Remember to slow down, never drive distracted, and always be aware of your surroundings. If you are a teen driver, remember that Ohio’s texting law bans all handheld electronic devices while driving.”

An OSP dashboard indicates that most crashes, in Tuscarawas County, occur between noon and 7pm.

Statewide, drivers aged 15 to 24 were involved in over 166,000 traffic crash from 2021 to 2022, with an action of the youthful driver contributing to 64% of these accidents.

In that same year, more than 400 fatalities were caused in a crash where a youthful driver was at fault.
