Newcomerstown officials are holding an informational meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the future of policing in the village.
Mayor Pat Cadle says they want everyone to be aware of what’s happening within the police department and the village’s options for maintaining protection.
“It’s an open air meeting. We want the right facts to go out to the community, let the people know what the options are, and what we’re looking at because right now we pretty much have the information to make the decision and we just want to make sure the public knows.”
Tuesday’s/tonight’s forum is scheduled for 7 pm at the administrative building on south college street but could move to the civic center depending on the size of the crowd.
It’s in response to staffing challenges within the police department.
“We had our chief resign to go to another and job it caused some controversy as far as how things were going to get filled. Another police officer was going with him. It’s one of those things that started at little panic attack so we just felt like the community needed to know what was going on.”
Cadle emphasizes that the meeting is not for folks to complain but to find solutions.
