Sarah Spies announced as the next CEO/President of the United Way of Tuscarawas County

Mary Alice Reporting –

Following Robin Waltz retirement, the Tuscarawas United Way Board has been searching for its next leader.

Eighteen qualified candidates applied for the CEO/President position, which was then narrowed down to twelve, and even more following interviews with Waltz.

Board President Chris Lane says that the final question posed to the top three candidates was, under their leadership, what the local United Way would look like within five years. Standing out with her answer was Sarah Spies.

“As someone with a creative plan, the skills needed, and a passion for our community that she’s demonstrated, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunity as she reaches segments of our community that we’ve may not be able to touch yet.”

Spies holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Kent State University and a Master of Arts in Higher Education from the University of Michigan. She is currently employed at the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center but will assume her new role effective June 3rd.

“Anything that helps our community, helps engage young people that’s what I really enjoy doing. I think that we live in an amazing and supportive community and anything that continues that mission of building that community is something that I love and enjoy, so I think it’s a great fit.”

Spies has been involved with the Little Theatre of Tuscarawas for the past 10 years and has served on the boards of the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership and Philharmonic.

Susan Reidenbach

Also announced was the promotion of Susan Reidenbach from the Tusc United Way’s Community Resources Coordinator to Director of Community Engagement, explains Lane.

“We have not completely defined the role yet. We are doing something that hasn’t been done inside the organization in 15 years, going back and looking at every aspect we have whether that’s job descriptions, titles, and tasks and duties.”

Overall, the non-profit has a focused priority on education, income, and health to create lasting changes in the community. For more details on what they do go to www.tuscunitedway.org.
