Mary Alice Reporting –

A food processor and distributor is set to open a new operation in the Village of Newcomerstown following an increase in demand for refrigerated pickles.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced the approval of 11 projects set to create and retain over 1,000 jobs.

Among them was Vienna Beef Ltd., who expects to create 51 full-time positions, generating more than $2.7 million in new annual payroll, as a result of the company’s new location in Newcomerstown.

Vienna Beef manufactures the classic Chicago-style hot dog as well as Polish sausage and Italian beef which are sold to restaurants and food service nationwide. The proposed project, at 500 Enterprise Drive, includes the acquisition and retrofitting of an existing facility to install refrigerated pickle production lines to address rising demand.

During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners, and TCA approved a 1.245 percent, seven-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.
